Field Trials

Big W Store

Jesmond, Newcastle, NSW

The equipment trialed was two Twinhead Copeland, semi-hermetic, water cooled DX systems. The compressor and water cooled condenser sets are positioned in the air handling units.

The units were 'wired up' for monitoring, and linked via GSM module* for easy 'live' data collection and monitoring.

No modifications to the units were made, the old oil was removed using a mechanical flushing machine that uses liquid refrigerant to flush old oil from the system, the filter dryers were changed and the systems re-filled with ERG 1000.

To ensure like for like comparisons the company responsible for monitoring checked data against Meteorological conditions from the local weather station.

The Results

  • Consistent increase in COP after the change to ERG 1000
  • Increase in efficiency between 12% and 17%, with peak increases on hotter days at 25%
  • Discharge and suction pressures/temperatures reduced after change to ERG 1000, resulting in less work for the compressor.
